How do we hurt each other?
Let us count the ways.
We hurt each other by our silly nothings,
Our vanity, our grace.
With a Love we can’t resist;
With our indomitable craze,
We hurt each other by the memories we sow
And store in an ivory case.
We hurt each other by the excessive care
With which an angel has to tread;
With the compulsion of a joker
Who has to laugh when his heart may be sad.
With the collapse under self-gravity
That the twin stars do not dread;
With the out-of-phase waxing and waning
Of fields in an electromagnetic wave.
We hurt each other by stretching to limits
Knowing that any moment we may snap;
With our determination to perfectly fuse
That doesn’t leave any room for a gap;
With our demands for perfection,
With the association ‘LOVE’ has with us-
We hurt each other ’cause there’s no other way round
Why of these sacrifices we make such a fuss?
If we feel that we are One with the Other – that our Love is true
Then when we hurt so much ourselves,
Why shouldn’t we hurt each other too?
